The Beggar’s Banquet ft. This Is Rubbish | The Cuckoo’s Nest
Hungry for change?
Sunday 4th August | The Cuckoo’s Nest
The Banquets is a community fundraising collaboration between a collective of East London social enterprises including Rejuce, The Peoples Kitchen, United Diversity and The Luna Cooperative.
The secret recipe? Take a few pallets of food waste, add a host of volunteers, stir in circus, music, and performing arts, add an after party for flavour, let stew and serve a few times a year.
In a tremendously exciting collaborative project, they’ll be joined by This is Rubbish in hosting an immersive, three course fine dining experience with a difference. This is food waste, collected in collaboration with New Spittalfields Markets and Fareshare.
From plough to plate 20 million tonnes of food is wasted each year in the UK. Our Banquets salvage surplus food from the restaurants and markets of east London, funnelling the waste product of a destructive economy, to re-imagining our collective potential and co-create abundance.
This is Rubbish
Strictly Come Wonking and Bin-aret immersive theatre. A completely rubbish talk and interactive, immersive salad toss, plus live music in the genre of ‘Roots and Tubers.’
This is rubbish; a collective of inspired food wasters speaking with their mouth full. Join the movement as we dedicate Sunday’s Cloud of Unknowing conference to the food system and food waste generation.
Colonel Mustard & the Dijon 5
Colonel Mustard hand selected the Dijon 5 from borstal, various young offenders institutes, St Badger from Mombassa and from the dirty waste of a ping pong banana show gone wrong.
He turned these future career criminals, Kenyan animal patron saints and filthy fruits into musical geniuses. He truly touched them all and made them the members they are today. Crowd participation is the Colonel’s middle name. Your Colonel needs you, word to your mustard.
“The Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel.” – Jimi Hendrix
With growling vocals, throbbing blues bass, flowing guitar riffs and runs, all steadied by thunderous drums it’s the kind of sound that pins you to your seat and strips the paint from the wall behind.
Beggar’s Banquet residents and you’ll soon know why.
Book now for an incredible food waste extravaganza, transforming our Cuckoo’s Nest on Sunday afternoon before Cloud Cuckoo Land culminates in a spectacular closing ceremony ft. YOU, the people.

Too good to waste?
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again. This is what it looks like.
